Q. What honor did Phillies player Wilson Valdez recently receive?

A. On May 26, when the Phillies were playing the Cincinnati Reds, the game went to 19 innings. Another pitcher was needed and second baseman Valdez was called upon to pitch. He allowed no runs and no hits and the Phillies won the game.

This made him the first player in 90 years to start a game in the field, then finish as the winning team's pitcher.

Babe Ruth had the same accomplishment in 1921. In honor of this achievement, the cap worn by Valdez during this game was sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame is located in Cooperstown, N.Y. and contains more than 38,000 artifacts, as well as books, documents, and photographs.

The last time Valdez pitched was at an amateur game in 2002, in the Dominican Republic, his home country.
