Bringin' High Hopes Without The Smoke
That Was Very Entertaining…Whatever
It’s been nearly a week since I’ve been able to sit down, watch a whole Phillies game, and write about it. I am off from work until Friday and I still get to watch that game.
Just like Heaven.
To add to my nice little two-day vacation, the Phillies absolutely skinned the D-backs tonight to kill Arizona’s seven-game winning streak.
Cliff Lee earned his 13th win of the season tonight as he held the D-backs to just 2 runs on 3 hits, over 7 innings. His only runs allowed were from a two-run dinger in the 2nd. It was smooth sailing from there for the Phifer, as he only allowed 2 more hits and walked a couple batters. None of those would score however. Lee was solid tonight, his line: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. Throwing just 99 pitches, he was pulled from the game in the bottom of the 7th inning in order for a pinch hitter. That pinch hitter, Ben Francisco, sac flied and added to the mayhem that the Phillies had already started to unleash on the D-backs.

John Mayberry Jr. went 3-4 with an RBI. Hunter Pence went 2-2, 2 BB, and scored 3 of the 9 runs. Certainly a bounce back offensive performance from last night’s heart breaker. Chase was the only starter (besides Cliff Lee) to not get a hit.
Bummer?
Yes, Chase is now batting .279 after going 0-5 tonight. Cliff didn’t go deep nor did he get on base (well he did, but got screwed by Brian Welke).
It’s really fun when you pound on the same team that beat you by one run the night before.
Whatever.
Tomorrow night, in the series finale, Vance Worley (8-1, 2.85 ERA) and Ian Kennedy (15-3, 3.12 ERA) will go toe-to-toe.
Worley is coming off one of the worst starts of his career, against the Dodgers. He allowed 6 earned runs over 4 innings. Kennedy is searching to continue his career year, as he’s won his last seven starts. He allowed 1 earned run over 7 innings against the Mets last Friday.
Final: Phillies win 9-2.
