The Doc Is In The District

" rel="bookmark">

The Phillies are on quest to continue one of their best streaks in ages, as they haven’t lost a series in over two months.  That streak is on the line today, but there’s no need to fret, Doc is on the hill.

Roy Halladay (15-5, 2.53 ERA) will face the Nationals yet again. The good doctor is 11-1, with a 2.21 ERA against the Nats in his career.  Those numbers speak for themselves.  Plus, the Nats have to worry about Doc coming off a loss.  He doesn’t like to lose.  In his last outing Halladay threw a great complete game, holding Arizona to just 1 run through 8, but still got tagged with the L as he let up a pair of runs in the 9th.  Forget that crap, though, it’s a new start and a new day and Doc doesn’t care what happened in the past. The Phillies and Doc are in the Capital, and what ever the circumstances are, Doc always seems to have control in Washington.

His counterpart for the contest will be Chien-Ming Wang (2-2, 4.22 ERA).  Wang, who has suffered right arm ailments (and jokes about his name) throughout his career has faced Halladay before, back in the American League.  Wang is coming off of a 6 1/3 inning outing, where he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits.  In his long career (mostly in the AL), he has only thrown 3 innings against the Fightins, racking up a 6.00 ERA and 2 strike outs.

Last night, the Phils scored 5 runs in the game and were able to maintain the shutout.  The Phillies who have faced Wang, have mostly been able to hit him.  Raul Ibanez has a career .222 avg against him in 18 AB, with 1 HR and 3 RBIs.  Ben Francisco is batting a career .600 against him, while Ross Gload sports a .556 mark with 2 RBIs.  Chase Utley and Shane Victorino both have .500 averages against him.  With these positive numbers, the Phils should have no hard task in scoring runs for Doc.

Fun Fact: The Phillies are 22-13 all time at Nationals Park, and have won 8 of the first 11 series played there.
