Following the brouhaha of Friday’s Phillies-Gaints game, it was felt by generally everyone that the league would hand down suspensions. Well, they have. It is being reported by ESPN that Shane Victorino has been suspended for three games and fined a undisclosed amount. This should come as no surprise to the Phillies’ center fielder, as he himself foresaw disciplinary actions coming his way. The Flying Hawaiian said that he feels he probably clinched a suspension when he reentered the scrum. Victorino claims that these actions were to protect everyone’s favorite little Panamanian catcher, Carlos Ruiz. He may have gone in to protect a fellow Phil, but he ended up tackling the 44 year-old hitting coach of the San Francisco Giants, Hensley Meulens. What you gonna do? Sometimes you just tackle middle-aged men. It happens.
As for the Giants, suspicions are not occurring. Oh, that makes sense. This is a joke to Major League Baseball that only Victorino has been suspended. Yes, Shane deserves a break, but the fact that Giants catcher (and future spokes person for Just For Men Gel) Eli Whiteside and pitcher Ramon Ramirez only receive fines (of undisclosed amounts) is a mockery of the game. You may remember Mr. Whiteside as the guy who was bouncing up and down on an invisible trampoline before sticking Placido Polanco with a form tackle. I would just like to point out, though, that Eli Whiteside did not take Polly to the mat. Guy really needs to work on his technique if he ever wants to make it in MMA. As for Ramirez, he’s the one started it all by throwing at Victorino. The Giants claimed that the intentional plunk was the result of a Jimmy Rollins steal while the Phillies were up 6 runs. This, ladies and gents, has to be a complete and total load of BS. The game was still going on, that’s why they were holding JRoll at first. Fact is that the Phillies were rolling, the Giants have been fledgeling for some time and frustration took over.
Victorino has decided to appeal his suspension. A move that will keep in the lineup while the MLB gears go into motion to eventually suspend him for the 3 games. Fines for the Giants and a suspension for Victorino. Bud Selig continues to ruin the game we love so much.
