Tony La Russa Has Pink Eye

" rel="bookmark">

Wow, how about that one.  Just when you think the shit hits the fan for you, it goes in reverse and lands in Tony La Russa’s face.  Oops! He had shingles, not pink eye (my bad).  In all seriousness, the Phillies were late bloomers tonight, scoring their first run in the 7th after being held to 3 hits by Kyle McClellan (No, TMac cannot pronounce it).  Things weren’t looking so hot after the Cards got the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th, but the BOOM came in the 8th and I mean BOOM!  43 minutes + 14 Phillies batters + 5 Cardinals pitchers = 9 run 8th inning.

This was certainly a great turn of events, giving the Phillies a W, but the Cards aren’t the only ones coming off the field without a W tonight.  Roy Halladay left the game in the top of the 7th for a pinch hitter; he threw a GREAT game! 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, but the Phillies only rallied 3 hits while he was still on the mound.  He didn’t get his 10th win tonight, and you can blame the early offense (or lack there of).  For real, one earned run is enough to get a lead off of.  Yeah a 9 run 8th inning is nice and all, but Doc should be 15-1 by now.  He did deserve that loss vs Milwaukee, but that’s besides the point.  This guy is our ace, and we should be backing him all 9 innings!

It was a joyous victory for us at home and those of us that ventured out to Busch Stadium for the series.  Tomorrow, Cliff Lee goes against the Cards.  He didn’t really fare well his first time facing them this season: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 6 BB, 4 K.  Let’s hope the offense carries o’er from tonight to tomorrow eh?

Final: Phillies 10 – Cardinals 2

W: Stutes (2-0) L: Wilson (0-1)

Let’s Go Phillies!
