Bringin' High Hopes Without The Smoke
It’s Hal-La-Day and He Wants His 10th
Damn, it’s only been thee days that I’ve been away from The Blunt, but it’s felt like a year. I love getting to write on here when there is an exciting game to be played. Hell, my first write was Chase Utley’s return! But enough about me, let’s talk about Doc.
Roy Halladay (9-3, 2.56 ERA) will take on the Pujols-less St. Louis Cardinals tonight. Halladay is searching for what could be his 10th win of the year, also being the first of 2011 to hit double digits. He has a 2-0, 1.13 ERA career vs the red birds. Halladay is coming off another ‘non-Halladay’ start in Game 2 of a day/night double header last Wednesday. His line from that night: 7IP, 6H, 4ER, 8 K. He and the Phils will oppose Cards’ pitcher Kyle McClellan (6-3, 3.96 ERA) who is coming off his first start back from a DL stint. He has a 0-2, 4.50 ERA career vs the Phillies.
Now to the bats. There will be no Albert Pujols in this series, nor in the All-Star Game. Pujols was batting .279, 17 HR, & 45 RBIs before breaking his left forearm on Sunday in a freaky looking play. Nonetheless, there will be no worries of a right handed first baseman taking it deep tonight. But I never said there wasn’t a chance of a lefty, firstbagger taking it deep tonight. Ryan Howard returns home and Mama Howard will be rooting for the big man all night long. Howard is hitting .365 (31-for-85) with 8 home runs and 31 RBIs in his career at Busch Stadium. As for the rest of the Phillies’ line up, I bring you it with dubious honor.
Phillies Lineup:

3. Utley 2B
4. Howard 1B
5. Polly 3B
6. Raul LF
