Interleague Play

" rel="bookmark">

! It’s something that everyone looks forward to watching. It is the time of the year when the Fightins take on some of the best teams from the American League. I remember when I was a kid, was used as a measuring stick to see how well we stacked up against the top tier teams, like those sons of bitches from New York or the Sawx.

Now a days though, at least since around 2007, I feel the Phillies have turned the table a bit on . Take this past series with the Mariners. Seattle fans had to have this one marked off on their calendars. The big bad Phillies were coming to town, and the locals would want to see if their home town boys could steal one from the Fightins. As we all saw, they took the series, and we had to watch that stupid Moose dance more than we wanted to.

In fact, that Moose is so stupid that as I watched the game on Saturday night, and they kept showing the homemade Phanatic I thought to myself that the Fake Phanatic (Phranatic) looked ten times better than the Moose, and that’s saying something.

I’m pretty sure that the real Phanatic would beat the hell out of the Moose. I even think that the fake Phanatic could as well. That’s neither here nor there and I am getting off topic.

Where was I? Ah, yes, . Later this week at home the Phillies fans get treated to two great series with the Red Sox and the Athletics coming to town. The Athletics always have held intrigue for me because they were the team that left Philadelphia. I’m sure it is the same way in New York when the Dodgers come to town. Except that the Dodgers are terrible and the A’s are mediocre.

When the Red Sox come through it is always a great series and the fans really come out and show their support. Back in the day, it would be the only set of games that would sell out at the Vet because everyone wanted to see the Red Sox, the New York team that we usually don’t see, and other AL teams. That just shows how much of this fan base are bandwagoners or front runners. A championship will do that to a city. A parade in 2008 turned every game into a sellout instead of just interleague games.

No I’m not bitter. Not at all. I’m glad that the Phillies won a World Series. I’m also glad that since then you can’t walk up to the box office the day of a game and get any ticket that comes with a seat.

Alright now. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. .

The Phillies are now the measuring stick for teams in the AL. That was my original point. The damn Moose got me fired up. I apologize for acting so rash and being so harsh towards the Phrontrunning fan base.

The best part about nowadays? The Phillies aren’t wearing those ugly hats anymore. You remember the hats.  The ones that looked like they were a giveaway on a Wednesday night in August for fans 14 and under. Maybe they had a huge Shop Rite logo stitched into the back. And you would wear it all the time and your friends would envy you for being able to get that hat, Shop Rite logo and all.

If you don’t remember the hat here is a picture of it. The picture is brought to you by the power of the internet. Ugh. Ugly. What an awful design. Whoever thought that a star in the center of the “P” looked good should have been fired immediately. I’m going to organize a hat burning in Center City for anyone that still owns one of those God awful things.

The Phillies should give out refunds or at least let you trade your interleague hat in for the much better day game hats. (From now on Italics, except when we sign our names at the bottom of the article, are to be used for sarcasm)

As we all look forward to this weekends match up with the Athletics, next weeks series with the Red Sox, and our final interleague match with the Blue Jays in Toronto, we all have to hope that the series we just closed out against the Mariners was a fluke, and that our boys show these American League teams how it’s done. We used to see how well we matched up against the better teams in the “better” league, now we’re the measuring stick.
