Today, it was announced that the Phillies and outfielder Juan Pierre had agreed on a minor league contract. The details of the deal are not specified, but one would assume it includes a invitation to Spring Training. Duh, it’s only twenty-two days away.
But nonetheless, the pickup of Pierre is a very good move by RAJ. Adding speed to this revamped-bench is just what the Phillies needed. In eleven seasons, Pierre has a career .296 batting average, 2000+ hits, and 554 stolen bases (26th All-Time). Not too shabby, Juan.
The Phillies’ bench has definitely out matched itself from last season (on paper that is). The real test is how they play on the field.
